Answering the Call

Building a Legacy that Matters

The Plain Township New Albany Firefighters Foundation (NAFF) was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2017. The mission of the NAFF is to honor and support our proud firefighter brotherhood and all first responders by providing resources, scholarships, and assistance to the community and fire families.

How the Foundation Came About

On Sunday, March 12, 2017, the firefighters of Plain Township New Albany lost a beloved brother of the department – David “Beau” Schoener. He passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at his home at the age of 39. To honor Beau and help raise money for Beau’s young son Jake, the fire department held an inaugural golf event. Thanks to sponsorships and generous support from the community, the department raised over $45,000.

Building on that success, the department established NAFF to not only help Beau’s son Jake but to also build a legacy that will positively impact the lives of community members and first responder families in the future. The foundation also started a scholarship for students interested in pursuing a career as a firefighter or in emergency services.

Who is
Beau Schoener?

David “Beau” Schoener was an outstanding Firefighter and Paramedic that served as part of the Plain Township Fire Department since 2003. Throughout his career, Beau was recognized multiple times for his valor and bravery. He also selflessly served in the Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts. Beau was dedicated to his family, friends, beloved Chelsea, and considered his 9-year-old son, Jake, his greatest gift and best accomplishment. Just as Beau gave selflessly to so many in the Plain Township community, the NAFF aims to follow his lead and the example he set.
